The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission marked the sixth anniversary of the launch of two significant satellites today. The satellites the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite and the Pakistan Technology Evaluation Satellite were launched on this day in 2018. The satellites were launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China. PRSS-1 has provided crucial data for environmental monitoring, resource management, and disaster response. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council has approved "Flood Response Emergency Housing Project (Phase-I). The approval was made at the ECNEC meeting which met in Islamabad today with Deputy Prime Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq in the chair. Flood Response Emergency Housing Project (Phase-I) will be funded through a loan from the Asian Development Bank and the project aims to support the flood effected people in Sindh through the community-led reconstruction of more than 250,000 flood resilient houses. Meanwhile, the upgradation of Pakistan Railways existing main Line-1 (ML-1) was also approved at re-modified scope, with directions that the Phase I of the Project that is 929 km from Karachi to Multan will be taken up as priority. The ECNEC considered and approved four water sector projects including Government of Punjab's project namely "Construction of Dadhocha Dam (revised)" on. The project will help bridging water deficiency in Rawalpindi through supply of 35 MGDs of water. Other water sector approved projects included Gomal Zam Multipurpose project, Raising of Mangla Dam project and Golen Gol Hydropower project. All three projects are now moving towards closure. "Development of Integrated Transit Trade Management System" was also approved by the forum. The project envisages construction and developing of state-of-the-art Border Crossing Points at Torkham, Chaman and Wahga, establishment of Land Port Authority, digital end-to-end tracking of containerized cargo. ECNEC further approved "Karachi Neighborhood Improvement Project (KNIP)" and extended its implementation period by six months to 31st December 2024. The project aims to enhance accessibility, usability and attractiveness of public spaces like roads, streets, parks, open spaces and public buildings in selected neighborhoods of Karachi. ECNEC also approved Construction of Border Terminal at Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Badini and upgradation of 40-km long road from Murgha Faqirzai to Khan Dagar Main Badini Road in district Saifullah . Prime Minister's Coordinator on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam has emphasized robust waste management strategies to safeguard the delicate ecosystem of Deosai National Park. She was talking to Honorary Ambassador for Wildlife, Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari, who called on her in Islamabad today. Romina Khurshid Alam said solid waste generation from visitors and inadequate resources for proper park management are major issues affecting the Deosai Park. She said a well-planned waste management system would not only protect the park's biodiversity but also promote sustainable tourism and support the local community. The Prime Minister's Coordinator suggested banning disposable plastic items in the park and stressed on raising awareness among visitors to address this environmental challenge. Jamal Khan Leghari briefed the PM's Coordinator about his recent visit to Deosai National Park and highlighted that the park generates substantial income from tourism. He recommended initiating road maintenance from Chi llam to Sadpara Check Post, increasing number of staff for the protection of wildlife in Deosai and relocating different check posts to improve accessibility and convenience for visitors to the Park. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a massive relief package of 50 billion rupees for domestic electricity consumers using upto 200 units per month. He was addressing a ceremony on energy sector reforms in Islamabad this afternoon. The Prime Minister said 25 million domestic consumers which make upto 94 percent of the total domestic consumers will benefit from this package for three months of July, August and September. He said under the package, cost of per unit electricity will be four to seven rupees per unit. He said consumers of K-Electric will also be eligible for this subsidy. The Prime Minister said these fifty billion rupees will be spent from development fund. He said the decision has been taken to provide relief to common man in the wake of increase in prices of electricity. He said these three summer months are the hardest to cope with and ultimately from October onwards as the weather gets pleasant, the electricity consumption also gets down. In an exclusive interview with Pakistan Television News, he said corporate governance and auditing practices are being enhanced in the DISCOs to prepare these companies for privatization. Answering a question of electricity over-billing, he said any discrimination found in billing would be thoroughly investigated and rectified. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the UN Refugee Agency to play its role in promoting durable solution to address the situation of Afghan refugees including through safe and dignified return and reintegration in their homeland and third country relocation. Talking to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi in Islamabad, he stressed that the international community must recognize the burden being shouldered by Pakistan while hosting such a large refugee population and demonstrate collective responsibility. He sought UNHCR's support in mobilizing adequate resources to supplement Pakistan's efforts in this regard. Reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to address protection and safety needs of people in vulnerable situations, the Prime Minister underscored that the international community needed to be mindful of the socio-economic challenges and security threats being faced by Pakistan in this regard. The UN High Commissioner expressed gratitude for Pakistan's generosity and hospitality in hosting millions of Afghan refugees for the past many decades. Funeral prayers of Captain Muhammad Osama Bin Arshad Shaheed were offered at Chaklala Garrison Rawalpindi. He embraced martyrdom while defending the motherland in North Waziristan District. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Defense Minister, Information Minister, Chief of Army Staff and a large number of serving and retired military officers, soldiers and relatives of Shaheed attended the funeral. On this occasion, the Prime Minister remarked that these sacrifices reaffirm our resolve to defeat terrorism in all its forms for a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan. He said that the nation stands resolute against these foreign-abetted terrorists and their facilitators and these adversaries of Pakistan will be comprehensively defeated through a multi-domain strategy based on whole-of-the-system approach, InshaAllah.
