New York: Pakistan’s Counsellor on Human Rights for Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Saima Saleem, has accused India of actively funding and supporting terror groups such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and the Majeed Brigade, with the intent of targeting and killing civilians in Pakistan.
According to Radio Pakistan, Saima Saleem made these statements in response to India during an open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict. She highlighted that India cannot obscure the facts of its actions, which include harming civilians in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, committing acts of aggression against Pakistan, and sponsoring terrorism both within Pakistan and globally.
Saleem further accused India of manipulating natural resources by impeding the flow of rivers crucial to the survival of 240 million Pakistanis. She emphasized that water should be a source of life, not a weapon of warfare.
She also mentioned the international condemnation of the Pahalgam incident and criticized India for not agreeing to credible, impartial, and independent investigations. Instead, she asserted, India continues to subject the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir to state-sponsored terrorism to suppress their freedom struggle.
Saleem alleged that from May 6 to May 10, India engaged in unprovoked aggression against Pakistan, resulting in 40 civilian deaths, including women and children, and injuring 121 others. She argued that India’s actions undermine its credibility in lecturing others on civilian protection.
She reiterated that India supports terror proxies like the TTP, BLA, and the Majeed Brigade, citing a recent attack on a school bus in Khuzdar, Balochistan, which resulted in the deaths of school children and injuries to many others.
Saleem concluded by urging India to cease its state-sponsored terrorism, end its oppression of Kashmiris, adhere to international laws and treaties, and engage in dialogue for a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
