Benazir Income Support Programme has so far provided training to more than 7,000 deserving beneficiaries under its Digital and Financial Literacy initiative. According to official sources, the training covered a range of topics including awareness of rights and responsibilities, identification of currency notes, utilization of mobile accounts, saving strategies, investment knowledge and awareness about various types of financial fraud. Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir has emphasized the need for sustained engagement and utilizing available communication channels between Pakistan and Iran to address security concerns. He was talking to Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, who called on him in Rawalpindi today. The Army Chief underscored the centrality of respecting the other state's sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling it sacrosanct, inviolable and the most important cardinal of state-to-state relationship. The two sides also reiterated their commitment to peace, stability and prosperity in the border region which is as an indispensable requirement for the well-being of the people living on both sides. Realizing the historical, religious and cultural ties that bind Pakistan and Iran, both sides emphasized on strengthening bilateral ties and fostering greater understanding of each other's concerns. They observed that terrorism is a common threat that needs to be tackled through collaborative efforts, better coordinatio n and intelligence sharing. The two sides agreed to operationalize the mechanism of deployment of military liaison officers in each other's country at an early date to improve coordination and efficiency of response against common threats. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has reiterated that government is committed to hold general elections in a free and fair manner on 8th of next month. In an interview with a private television channel, he said the candidates are canvassing and all the rumours would fall to rest by the evening of the 8 February. Regarding the usual complaints of rigging before or after the elections, the Prime Minister said that learning lessons from the past, the parliament needs to address all the flaws regarding the laws. He said the observers would monitor and local and international media would report on the activity. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said all the electoral claims made by the parties including jobs, shelters, cheap electricity, food security, and others are directly related to a stable economy. He said the political parties need to come up with a plan for revenue generation and widening the tax net. The Prime Minister said that enhanced taxation would also make the government accountable to the masse s. About the repatriation of illegal foreign nationals, he said Pakistan has expelled only those with no identity and record and that such individuals would be allowed to return after obtaining valid passports and visas. Pakistan and Iran have agreed to immediately appoint liaison officers in Turbat and Zahidan to further strengthen ongoing security and intelligence cooperation. An understanding to this effect came during the meeting of Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in Islamabad today. Underscoring the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to deepen and broaden the existing wide-ranging cooperation with Iran. The Foreign Minister underlined the imperative for collective and collaborative approaches to confront terrorism that posed a common challenge to both Pakistan and Iran. He stressed that robust institutional mechanisms between the two countries on security cooperation should be fully leveraged. The two Foreign Ministers agreed to expand initiatives for economic and development cooperation including through early operationalization of the joint border markets to uplift t he socio-economic status of the people of both countries, especially those residing in the border regions.
