Awais Leghari Announces End to Power Load-Shedding

Islamabad: Minister for Power Awais Leghari has announced an end to power load-shedding.

According to Radio Pakistan, in his video message, Leghari mentioned that the country received LNG yesterday, and electricity production from hydropower has now reached six thousand megawatts. The Minister recalled that the people started experiencing power outages about fifteen days ago. At that time, it was clarified during a press conference that the load-shedding was neither due to any negligence on the part of the authorities nor caused by a non-functional system or insufficient production capacity.

He explained that the reason for the load-shedding was a gas shortage, which occurred because LNG supplies were not arriving due to the US-Iran war. Leghari emphasized that producing electricity using diesel or furnace oil to completely eliminate load-shedding would have made electricity very expensive, placing a burden on consumers.

The Minister for Power further clarified that the country's generation capacity is not forty-six thousand megawatts, but thirty-two thousand megawatts. He assured that every effort will be made to protect consumers from any increase in electricity prices.
