Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has urged all Pakistanis and the international community to reaffirm their commitment to environmental conservation. In his message on the first International Markhor Day that was observed today, he said the Markhor represents our resolve to preserve biodiversity and maintain ecological balance. The Prime Minister said this day, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly acknowledges Pakistan's efforts and successes in wildlife conservation. He said Pakistan takes pride in the majestic creature, Markhor being its national animal that symbolizes its rich natural heritage. Shehbaz Sharif said there has been a significant increase in the Markhor's population over the past decade which testifies Pakistan's unwavering dedication to protect natural environment. He said our conservation programs, supported by local communities and scientific research, have shown that with collective effort, we can reverse the decline of endangered species. The Prime Minister said Pakistan, as a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species proudly announces its commitment to responsible trade practices and well-being of endangered species. He said Pakistan Trade Control of Wild Fauna and Flora Act, 2012 is an exclusive legislation reaffirming our commitment.
