A two-week long Multinational Joint Special Forces Exercise 'Eternal Brotherhood-II' was concluded in Barotha today.

Besides Pakistan, Special Forces of friendly countries, including Kazakhstan, Qatar, Turkiye and Uzbekistan participated in the counterterrorism exercise that commenced on 17th of the last month.

The exercise was aimed at further harnessing the historic military to military relations amongst brotherly countries and helped nurture joint employment concepts against counter terrorism besides; identifying areas of mutual interest for future military collaborations.

Corps Commander 11 Corps attended the Closing Ceremony as Chief Guest along with Director General Military Training and General Officer Commanding Special Service Group.

Besides the Exercising troops, officers from the friendly countries also witnessed the Closing Ceremony.

Special Forces of participating countries displayed their professional excellence on the final day.

The Foreign Office, in a statement on Sunday, said we pray for the swift and complete recovery of those injured in this heinous attack.

It said Pakistan resolutely stands with Türkiye in its fight against the scourge of terrorism.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali has vowed to work tirelessly for the progress and prosperity of the province in general and for country in particular.

He stated this in an exclusive Podcast interview with Radio Pakistan.

The KP Governor highlighted the steps being taken for the betterment of education sector in the province.

He said a plan is being devised to impart practical knowledge to students along with the theory.

The Governor said linkage is being established between universities and industries of the province in order to equip the students with practical knowledge.

Elaborating the importance of research and development in universities, he emphasized on adopting modern techniques in education to better compete with the world community.

Commenting on the abundant mineral deposits in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haji Ghulam Ali expressed desire to bring investment in this sector.

He appreciated the role of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir in this regard.

The KP Governor said natural gas discovered in Lakki Marwat and Waziristan is reaching to large parts of country.

Haji Ghulam Ali termed public private partnership as an effective tool to bolster the scope of tourism sector.

He said private tourist companies have been asked to provide helicopter services to tourists to promote tourism.

He pointed out that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offers copious scenic and splendid sights in the form of meadows, mountains, valleys and water bodies.

Terming China Pakistan Economic Corridor project as a back bone for the progress and prosperity of the country, he said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is its main beneficiary.

Responding to a question about the rising tendency of the inflation, Haji Ghulam Ali said a prudent strategy needs to be pursued to counter the price hike of essential commodities.

He said the agreement signed by previous government with International Monetary Fund is the major reason of the unbridled inflation in the country.

He urged citizens to avoid purchasing imported items and give priority to the local commodities.

He said it is encouraging that dollar is depreciating against the rupee due to the crackdown against the mafia.

The KP Governor said after assuming the office, he ordered to open the doors of Governor House for general public.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to promote cooperation in Climate Resilient and Sustainable Urban Planning in view of the real challenges being faced by the region.

An understanding to this effect came during a meeting between Caretaker Planning Minister for Development and Special Initiatives, Muhammad Sami Saeed and Chairman State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev on Sunday.

Both the leaders also agreed to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries by exploring joint strategies for socioeconomic development of the people of both countries. It was mutually acknowledged that Urban Planning is a real challenge and forums like Azerbaijan National Urban are much needed to find out solutions, while learning from the international experiences and for chalking out a collective way forward.

Speaking on the occasion, the Planning Minister appreciated the government of Azerbaijan for conducting a successful Second National Urban Forum which plays a vital role in the reconstruction of destroyed cities with the theme of “Resilient cities as a driving force of economic development and fighting inequalities.

He also highlighted the recently launched Resilient, Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework (4RF) for Pakistan Floods 2022 which is playing a vital role in making a resilient infrastructure.

The Planning Minister also appreciated the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts undertaken by the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture in conflict affected areas of Azerbaijan.

It is noted that since Flood 2022, the Planning Ministry has been approving climate resilient development projects while directing the provinces to follow it strictly. Pakistan’s two provinces Sindh and Balochistan were badly hot by the flood affected 33 million people. However, Pakistan successfully coped with the situation with the help of the international community.

The Planning Minister is on an official visit to the Second Azerbaijan National Urban Forum and Global Observance of World Habitat Day 2023, themed "Resilient cities as a driving force of economic development and fighting inequalities," organized by the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Zangilan as part of the Azerbaijan Urban Week.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has jacked up the price of indigenous liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs. 20.84 per kg, increasing the price of 11.8 kg domestic cylinder by Rs. 246 or around 8.6 percent for October.

In a notification, the regulator set the price of LPG at Rs. 261 per kg for October compared to Rs. 240 in September. The 11.8 kg domestic cylinder price was set at Rs. 3,079 in October compared to Rs. 2,833 in September.

As per OGRA’s calculation, the producer price of LPG (propane 40 percent and butane 60 percent) has been determined at Rs. 181,506 per tonne for October.

With the addition of Rs. 4,669 per tonne of petroleum levy and 18 percent sales tax of Rs. 33,511 per tonne for October, the maximum producer price was worked out at Rs. 219,686 per tonne for October. The maximum producer price for the domestic cylinder of 11.8 kg was thus calculated at Rs. 2,592 per kg for the current month.

For consumer price, another Rs. 35,000 per tonne of marketing, distribution, and transportation margin was added to the maximum producer price besides another 18 percent GST (Rs. 6,300 per tonne on this margin). Thus the consumer end maximum LPG price was fixed at Rs. 260,986 per tonne (Rs. 3,079 per cylinder of 11.8 kg) for October.

It is pertinent to mention here that last month, the regulator increased the price of indigenous liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs. 39 per kg.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the date for filing of income tax returns for tax year 2023 till October 31, 2023.

In a post on X, the FBR said that the decision has been taken in view of the demand of the trade bodies and various tax bar associations. The statement added that “no further” extension for filing tax returns will be granted.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Thursday FBR had announced that there would be no extension in the date for filing tax returns.

Earlier in the day FBR announced that for the first quarter of current financial year, it has collected Rs. 2,041 billion against the assigned target of Rs. 1,978 billion, exceeding the target by Rs. 63 billion.

Moreover for September, against a target of Rs.794 billion, FBR collected Rs. 834 billion while while refunds amounting to Rs. 37 billion were issued during the month compared to Rs. 18 billion issued in September 2022.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) surpassed the revenue collection target for the first quarter of the current fiscal year by Rs. 63 billion.

According to details issued by FBR, the tax collection for the first quarter of the current fiscal year came in at Rs. 2,041 billion against the assigned target of Rs. 1,978 billion, exceeding the target by Rs. 63 billion.

For September, the FBR collected Rs. 834 billion against a target of Rs. 794 billion while refunds amounting to Rs. 37 billion were issued compared to Rs. 18 billion issued in September 2022.

FBR said that severe import compression was witnessed during September 2023. During the previous month, taxes collected at the import stage stood at Rs. 299 billion whereas during the current month taxes at the import stage were only Rs. 254 billion. However, FBR was able to make up the shortfall of Rs. 45 billion through domestic taxes, especially direct taxes.

The state by FBR further added that it is committed to not only achieving the assigned target for the coming months of the current financial year but also surpassing it.
