Istanbul (UNA-OIC) Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu revealed that the Declaration of the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will focus on the establishment of the independent state of Palestine and the sanctity of the Jerusalem city.
Cavusoglu, who was speaking at the opening of the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting to the Extraordinary Islamic Summit in Istanbul on Friday morning, said that the positions of the United States and its recent step to move its embassy to occupied Jerusalem encouraged Israel to commit its crimes against the Palestinian people. He renewed his condemnation of the massacre committed by Israel against the Palestinian people and called for the support of the Palestinian brothers.
The Turkish minister said the US committed an illegal act by relocating its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. He described the US move as a shameful and painful incident coupled with the start of Ramadan and the crimes perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people including the killing of children, elderly and women, stressing that the Israeli authorities and their soldiers, who pointed guns at defenseless civilians, should be held accountable.
Cavusoglu underlined that the Extraordinary OIC Summit is a message of solidarity from the Islamic world with the Palestinian people. At the same time, he criticized some OIC member states, which he did not name, saying these countries did not provide the necessary support for the Palestinian cause.
The foreign minister added that some of these countries voted against Palestine or abstained from voting at the international forums. Therefore, he said, we need to take decisive measures to prevent recurrence of such positions.
Cavusoglu said that the illegal US steps have undermined the peace process in the Middle East and encouraged Israel to commit acts of repression and brutality against the Palestinians, stressing that the US is responsible for this. He called on international organizations to provide support for the Palestinians and their steadfastness as well as supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
