Istanbul: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called for resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people to ensure durable peace in South Asia. Speaking at the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir in Istanbul on Sunday, he urged the Organization to scale up its efforts for mitigation of the Kashmiri people’s sufferings and finding a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar said the OIC and its Member States should use their influence to urge India to improve the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the need for India to release political prisoners, repeal draconian emergency laws, and remove military presence from populated areas. Furthermore, Dar called for the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s statements come amid ongoing tensions in the region, highlighting the critical role of international organizations in facilitating dialogue and negotiations. The OIC Contact Group meeting in Istanbul served as a platform to address these pressing issues and seek collaborative solutions.
