Proposal under consideration to setup ‘Swift Canters’ for issuance of passports: NA told

The National Assembly was informed on Monday that a proposal is under consideration to establish Swift Centers for the issuance of passports to the people.

Minister of State for Interior Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju told the house during question hour that it will be our effort to spread the network of these centers to the tehsil headquarters level.

The Minister of State said the government is fully cognizant of the problems faced by the people due to cybercrimes.

He said the government is working to enhance the capacity of cybercrimes wing of FIA to deal with the situation.

Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju said action has been taken against illegal housing societies in the federal capital.

Responding to a question, the Minister of State said that the expansion and rehabilitation of IJ Principal Road will be completed by April next year.

Responding to a point of order raised by Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Shahbaz Babar assured that the employees and pensioners of Radio Pakistan will get their salaries and pensions within a week. He said the AGPR has received an amount of five hundred million rupees for this purpose.

He said the Minister for Information and Broadcasting worked tirelessly to ensure that the employees and pensioners of the national broadcaster get their outstanding payments. He said it is our effort that the employees do not face such a situation again.

The Parliamentary Secretary however regretted the flawed policies of the previous government and its Minister for Information and Broadcasting. He said the previous government was bent upon selling the building of Radio Pakistan and had plans to privatize it. He said the previous government did not do anything to help Radio Pakistan stand on its own feet.

The National Assembly today passed Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection bill 2022 aimed at protecting investors from unnecessary court proceedings and other hassles.

The bill was moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. Under the bill, protection will be given to investments done on the basis of international agreements.

Speaking on the occasion, Law Minister Azam Nazeer said the bill is very important for Balochistan and Pakistan vis-à-vis the Reko Diq project.

At the outset, the house offered fateha for the departed soul of former Senator Begum Najma Hameed, security personnel martyred in recent acts of terrorism and the civilians martyred in Afghan security forces’ firing in Chaman, Balochistan.

The House will now meet on Tuesday at 11:00 am.
