President, PM Reiterate Pakistan’s Commitment to Global Peace

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated Pakistan's steadfast commitment to global peace. In his message on International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed solidarity with all peacekeepers serving under the UN flag in pursuit of peace and stability across the world. The President said we honour the courage and commitment of the 183 Pakistani peacekeepers who laid down their lives in the service of international peace and security.

According to Radio Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan is also host to one of the oldest United Nations peacekeeping missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He said the continued presence and relevance of this Mission reaffirm the responsibility of the international community to support a just and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In his separate message, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan's continued contribution reflects its enduring commitment to international peace and security, as well as to the principles of multilateralism. The Prime Minister said Pakistan joins the international community in paying rich tribute to brave men and women serving under the United Nations flag.

This year's observance is being commemorated under the theme, "Invest in Peace," which underscores the critical importance of sustained political commitment and financial support for the promotion of durable peace and protection of human lives worldwide.
