Pakistan Highlights Concerns Over Disinformation in Conflict Situations

New york: Pakistan has termed the use of disinformation and misinformation in situations of foreign occupation and conflict as highly concerning. Delivering a statement during the 48th session of the Committee on Information, Pakistan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Usman Jadoon, expressed these concerns.

According to Radio Pakistan, Usman Jadoon highlighted Pakistan's deep concern about the misuse of digital platforms, which are increasingly being used to amplify falsehoods, deepen societal polarization, and target vulnerable communities. He pointed out the alarming persistence of hate speech, racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia in digital spaces, which often translates into real-world harm.

Jadoon emphasized the critical need for timely, accurate, and impartial communication, especially in the current context of geopolitical tensions, polarization, and widening inequalities. He stressed that information should play a constructive role, serving as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation rather than being used as a tool for manipulation, division, or repression.
