Media can be an effective tool to further strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Turkey

Islamabad: Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, met today with Mr. Ibrahim Shahin, Director General Turkish Radio Television (TRT) and visited different sections of the TRT. She appreciated the Director General and other officials of TRT in highlighting the magnitude of flood in Pakistan and the miseries being suffered by the people.

She thanked the TRT that they provided her an opportunity to appear in a talk show and to appeal to Turkish government and people for their generous assistance to ameliorate the sufferings of the flood affectees in Pakistan.

The Minister for Information and Broadcasting emphasized on the need to implement MoUs signed between PTV and TRT so that exchange of news, dramas and various programmes could be made, says a press release received here today from Ankara, Turkey.

She said that PTV and TRT should make joint efforts to highlight the philosophy of Maulana Roomi and Allama Iqbal and render their technical support in the joint celebrations of Iqbal and Roomi’s philosophy to be held in Pakistan. She also stressed that both countries should focus on joint movies production for better understanding of culture.

On this occasion DG TRT said that we are ready to cooperate with PTV and hope that both official channels will bring the people of both the counties closer.

Earlier Information Minister participated in Live Talk show of TRT in which she thanked the role of the Turkish government for providing the assistance and relief to the flood victims in Pakistan both on governmental and non-governmental level.

She said that we have also made an appeal to UN in this regard and there is a need for a joint and concerted effort to face the challenges created by floods in Pakistan. In talk show, she said that today media in Pakistan is totally free and government is providing conducive environment for media to grow and develop so that they could perform their duties in accordance of their professional ethos.
