Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab presented the budget for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the City Council. The total revenue for KMC’s 2025-26 budget stands at Rs. 55,283.606 million, while total expenditures are Rs. 55,137.334 million, resulting in a surplus of Rs. 146.272 million.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the KMC budget shows a revenue breakdown as follows: Current Receipts amount to Rs. 44,149.843 million, Capital Receipts are Rs. 2,133.763 million, and District ADP (Annual Development Program) Funds stand at Rs. 9,000.000 million. The expenditure breakdown includes Establishment Costs at Rs. 31,591.494 million, Contingent Expenses at Rs. 3,048.015 million, Repair and Maintenance at Rs. 414.610 million, Development Projects/Works at Rs. 3,013.200 million, Development Works (CLICK) at Rs. 7,434.000 million, and District ADP Expenditure at Rs. 9,000.000 million.
Key allocations in the budget are designated for various sectors, including Pension Fund, Miscellaneous Expenses, and a Bailout Package totaling Rs. 13,410.000 million. Medical and Health Services receive Rs. 7,298.559 million, Municipal Services are allocated Rs. 5,304.944 million, and the Engineering Department is set to receive Rs. 4,375.192 million. Other notable allocations include Revenue Departments (Land Enforcement, Estate, Katchi Abadi, PD Orangi, Charged Parking) at Rs. 2,101.327 million, Parks and Horticulture at Rs. 1,773.377 million, Cultural, Sports and Recreation at Rs. 1,284.042 million, and Finance and Accounts (MUCT) at Rs. 602.243 million.
The budget estimates revenue sources as follows: Government Grants amount to Rs. 28,543.313 million, K-Electric Dues Recovery is expected at Rs. 850 million, District ADP contributions are Rs. 9,000.000 million, and the CLICK (World Bank Funded Project) is anticipated to generate Rs. 7,434.000 million. Department-wise revenue recovery estimates are provided by the Land Lease Department at Rs. 2,548.550 million, the Estate Department at Rs. 500.100 million, and Katchi Abadi at Rs. 155 million.
Development projects and ADP allocations include significant funding for CLICK Development Works at Rs. 7,434.000 million, Road Construction and Improvement at Rs. 200 million, and Stormwater Drain Cleaning at Rs. 150 million. Additional allocations are made for KMC Parks Upgradation at Rs. 355 million and district-wise infrastructure improvements in roads, footpaths, sewerage, bridges, and roundabouts at Rs. 120 million.
Special development initiatives in the budget feature MUCT Funded Special Projects at Rs. 500 million and a monthly allocation of Rs. 100,000 per Union Council, totaling Rs. 295.200 million. Other initiatives include Solarization of KMC Buildings at Rs. 220.200 million, Urban Forest on Gutter Baghicha at Rs. 50 million, Kidney Hill Park Development at Rs. 50 million, Shelter Homes for Drug Addicts at Rs. 50 million, and a Park Adjacent to Choukundi Graveyard at Rs. 50 million.
