Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has asked Norwegian telecommunication companies to bring new technologies to Pakistan. She was talking to the CEO and other high officials of Telenor during her visit to the company headquarters here this morning, says a press release received from Oslo here today.
The CEO briefed the minister about the operations, investment volume, technologies being used and other details of company’s presence in Pakistan. The minister appreciated the role and position of the company in Pakistan’s telecommunication market.
She asked the company to bring new technologies to Pakistan. She also discussed how the company could assist the Ministry of Information in utilization of social media for dissemination of Information to the people of Pakistan as well to the foreign publics.
The CEO told the minister that the company has generated employment apart from playing its role in providing communication tools to the people of Pakistan. The Minister emphasized that Pakistan deserves special attention from foreign investors in the wake of the losses Pakistan’s economy has suffered due to its role in war against International terrorism. She also asked Telenor to bring new technologies in telecommunication sector to Pakistan.
Later, she visited the offices of another telecommunication out-fit Lebara and its officials. She was accompanied during both the visits by high officials of Ministry of Information as well Pakistan’s Charge d’ Affairs in Norway.
