Govt decides to switch state-owned buildings to solar energy

The government has decided to switch government buildings to solar energy under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Green Energy Vision.

In a statement, Minister for Information and broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said the decision was taken during an important meeting of the Task Force on Solar Energy chaired by PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said relevant authorities have been directed to prepare a feasibility report for shifting government buildings to solar energy.

The Minister said it was decided to install solar plants in the areas where electricity is being subsidized.

The meeting also considered formulating a policy to save energy and promote green energy. It also discussed a plan to provide subsidies and concessional loans to small consumers to switch to solar energy.

The Minister said the use of solar panels will enable consumers to sell additional power to grid stations, which will also help them increase their revenue. In this regard, work on four to five thousand megawatt projects will begin soon.
