Foreign Secretary, Germany’s Special Representative discuss situation in Afghanistan

Germany’s Special Representative Gasper Wieck called on Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood in Islamabad today (Monday).

They exchanged views on Pakistan-Germany bilateral relations and the situation in Afghanistan.

Shared Pakistan’s perspective on a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan, the Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood highlighted Islamabad’s efforts in this regard.

He also underlined that the international community’s sustained engagement and continued assistance would help in addressing the urgent humanitarian and economic challenges in Pakistan’s neighboring country.

He urged the international community to consider measures beyond the provision of humanitarian assistance as it is in the interest of the long-term stability. He remarked that a stable Afghanistan would contribute immensely towards economic stability, regional connectivity, and counter-terrorism in the country.

The German Special Representative thanked for Pakistan’s supportive role in facilitating the evacuation efforts and concurred on the need to stay engaged with Afghanistan to promote the objectives of peace and stability.

He expressed satisfaction on the bilateral exchanges and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to enhance mutual cooperation in all areas of common interest.
