The European Union has termed unjustified, the introduction of mandatory COVID screenings of travellers from China.

In a statement, EU Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said surge in cases in China would not impact the EU due to higher population immunity and prior replacement of variants there.

Meanwhile, the United States joins Italy, Japan, Taiwan and India to impose COVID testing on visitors from China.

Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to test imposition saying it should be on scientific basis and situation need not be hyped up.
