Cotton growers warned of CLCV attack due to climatic change

Punjab Agriculture department has warned of susceptibility of cotton crop to attack of Cotton Leaf Curl Virus this year due to climatic change. In a statement, spokesman for the Punjab Agriculture Department Najaf Abbas said farmers must eliminate weeds from cotton fields to mitigate the impact of this disease. He said the Cotton Leaf Curl Virus mainly spreads due to attack of White fly which serves as mediator of this disease. He said in case of attack of the CLCV, farmers should start applying fertilizer particularly Magnesium that mitigates impact of the disease.

The spokesperson advised that judicious use of fertilizer during hot humid weather condition of monsoon also enhances the formation of cotton bolls.
