Chairman IPO-Pakistan Emphasizes Centrality of IP in Pakistan’s Progress.


Tandojam: The Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan recently hosted a seminar at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. The seminar focused on discussing the recent World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Treaty on Genetic Resources, Associated Traditional Knowledge, and other intellectual property-related matters.

According to Radio Pakistan, the seminar aimed to raise awareness about the importance of intellectual property rights in promoting innovation and economic growth in Pakistan. Chairman IPO-Pakistan, Farukh Amil, spoke on the occasion, emphasizing the central role of intellectual property in Pakistan’s progress and its attractiveness to foreign investors in a rules-compliant country.

The WIPO Treaty on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge seeks to enhance the efficacy, transparency, and quality of the patent system concerning genetic resources and traditional knowledge associated with these resources. The treaty also establishes a disclosure requirement for pate
nt applicants who base their inventions on genetic resources and the traditional knowledge associated with them.
