Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet has approved the promotion of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal for his role in ensuring the defence of the country and defeating the enemy through his leadership during Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Radio Pakistan, the proposal for the promotion was put forward by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who also consulted with President Asif Ali Zardari to gain his confidence regarding the decision. The cabinet further agreed to extend the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu after his current term concludes.
In addition to these decisions, the Federal Cabinet resolved to honor officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Armed Forces, as well as ghazis, martyrs, and civilians from various fields, with high government awards. This recognition is for their valuable contributions during Operation Banyanum Marsoos.
