Ahsan reiterates resolve to ensure transparency in int’l aid projects

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal says a Special Project Cell will be established at the Ministry of Planning to take full advantage of international aid for flood victims.

Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of decisions made in Geneva Conference in Islamabad today, he said aid for Pakistan has reached 10.9 billion dollars.

He said Pakistan’s reconstruction strategy was appreciated globally. He said Special Project unit will consist of the best professionals and experts.

Reiterating government’s resolve to ensure transparency in international aid projects, the Minister said third party audit will be ensured. He said projects will immediately be started with the collaboration of provincial governments.

Later, addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, the Planning Minister called for enhancing production capacity for a sustainable solution of country’s economic challenges.

He said billions of dollars can be brought in the country by bringing our productivity at par with global average.

Ahsan Iqbal said agriculture sector of the country has the potential of giving breakthrough by improving farm management practices.

The Minister said yield of wheat can be enhanced by 80 to 300 percent through modern cultivation methods.

Ahsan Iqbal stressed on increasing tax to GDP and creating conducive environment for investors.
