Islamabad: Dr. Abid Gill, an economist, has praised the government's initiative to enhance the national economy through a finalized plan to export meat to Malaysia. The development has been seen as a strategic move to boost Pakistan's foreign exchange earnings, which have traditionally relied on remittances from overseas Pakistanis. According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Gill emphasized the need for Pakistan to explore the potential of meat exports, particularly to Muslim countries. The economist highlighted that rural areas in Balochistan and South Punjab possess considerable potential for livestock breeding, which could significantly contribute to meeting export demands. He stressed the importance of channelizing efforts to bolster meat exports, thereby turning the focus towards creating an export-oriented economy. Dr. Gill noted that many non-Muslim countries have become leading exporters of Halal meat due to their focus on expanding exports. These countries have transformed their economies by identifying area s of comparative advantage and facilitating exporters with supportive policies. The economist suggested that Pakistan should adopt similar strategies to explore new markets and enhance its meat export capabilities.
