Islamabad: Maqbool Elahi Malik, a senior analyst, has praised the government for its focus on the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Since assuming office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been working towards establishing a new policy on electric vehicles. This initiative is expected to help Pakistan conserve energy and reduce its import bill for petroleum products and gas, thereby increasing the country's foreign exchange reserves. Additionally, the policy aims to address climate change issues, which have become increasingly significant globally. According to Radio Pakistan, the introduction of electric vehicles is considered a strategic move to mitigate Pakistan's climate challenges, including torrential rains, melting glaciers, and rising temperatures. The government is also keen to attract foreign investment in economic zones, with China anticipated to play a leading role in this new business venture. With over 60 percent of Pakistan's population consisting of youth, the government is providing subsidies on electric vehicles to encourage their adoption.
