Islamabad: The Senate was informed today that the National Highway Authority (NHA) achieved record revenues during the last fiscal year. Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan addressed the House during the Question Hour, revealing that the NHA earned fifty billion rupees more compared to the previous financial year. He expressed the government's commitment to accelerating work on road infrastructure projects.
According to Radio Pakistan, Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted that the construction of the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Expressway is a top priority for the government. He mentioned that the Prime Minister has established a steering committee to oversee progress on this project and allocated dedicated funds from the Petroleum Development Levy.
Abdul Aleem Khan also shared that the Federal Government has communicated with provincial governments, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, offering to reconstruct roads at tourist spots. He noted that improved road infrastructure in scenic areas will promote tourism.
Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized the government's policy of merit-based recruitment in departments. He urged provincial governments to focus on enhancing the standard of education.
Additionally, the House passed four bills today: The Extradition Amendment Bill, 2025, Pakistan Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2025, the Criminal Laws Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Amendment Bill, 2025. The National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority Ordinance was also laid before the House. The session was adjourned to reconvene on Monday at five pm.
