Sindh Government in collaboration with World Bank is implementing a comprehensive program to solarize public sector buildings. In this connection, a meeting was held between Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and World Bank Technical Mission in Karachi. Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Energy Minister said in the first phase of solarization twenty-one point seven Mega Watt of electricity is being provided through the solar panels to thirty-four public sector buildings. Nasir Shah said the pace of the solar project was being monitored on a daily basis. Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal says China has shown a remarkable contribution in development of different regions of Pakistan, including Gwadar under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Talking to Chinese news agency Xinhua, he said Gwadar will become an internationally acclaimed world-class port city with tremendous opportunities for its people. Appreciating China's contributions for the uplift of Gwadar, Ahsan Iqbal said China has set up a state-of-the-art modern hospital and helped set up a technical training institution in for the people of Gwadar. He said China has also undertaken initiatives to improve the lives of the local people including provision of solar panels to them. In Punjab, anti-polio drive will start in six specific districts from tomorrow, which will continue until 9th of this month. During the drive, forty thousand polio workers will administer polio drops to a total of six point four million children up to five years of age, in districts of Lahore, Okara Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Mianwali. A five-day anti-polio drive in 23 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa begins on Monday. More than three point five million children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio drops during the anti-polio drive. Eighteen thousand and three hundred teams have been constituted which will visit door to door in these districts to administer polio drops to each and every child. Meanwhile, seven day anti-polio drive will begin in 14 Districts of Balochistan on Monday. Coordinator Emergency Operation Center Balochistan Syed Zahid Shah said due to expected heatwave in Nasirabad, Sibi, Jaffar Abad, Ustha Muhammad, Dera Bugti and Sohbatpur the anti-polio drive will begin on 8th June. Pakistan and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote industrial cooperation between the two countries. Addressing on the occasion, Economic Minister deputed at Pakistan's embassy in Beijing Aslam Chaudhary briefed the participants about the incentives offered by the present government to attract the foreign investment especially from China. He informed that special economic zones are being established across Pakistan where the Chinese enterprises could relocate their industry and export products to different countries taking advantage of preferential agreements signed by Pakistan with various countries. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed to issue urgent passports to overseas Pakistanis within seven days. He was speaking during his visit to Passport and NADRA centers in London today. The Minister said normal passport will be issued within 30 days and this policy will be applicable to all Pakistani missions abroad. He took notice of delay in issuance of passports to overseas Pakistanis, as normal passports were being issued in approximately four months while urgent in one and a half month. The Minister said no delay will be tolerated anymore and action will be taken against non-issuance of passport within stipulated time. He also established a monitoring cell to ensure delivery of passports within time. The cell will be headed by Personal Staff Officer to the Interior Minister, ASP Shahrbano. Overseas Pakistanis will be able to lodge complaint at email address: passport@interior.gov.pk if they do not receive their passport within time. On the occasion, the Interior Minister also interacted wi th Pakistanis present in the centers. They appreciated the performance of NADRA and no one complained about it, upon which the Minister congratulated the NADRA staff for their good performance. Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain says Department of Plant Protection will be upgraded on modern lines to ensure that its operations meet top quality benchmarks. He was talking to Director General of the Department Dr. Tariq Khan who called on him in Islamabad today. The Minister said the Plant Protection Department is highly significant in agriculture sector and it needs to be digitalized for more efficacy. He said efforts will be made to develop a comprehensive strategy to further improve the performance of the department. The Minister said strategy will also be formulated to improve the fumigation system and the number of fumigation companies will be further expanded. He said the registration system of pesticides will also be digitalized. Rana Tanveer Hussain said an effective system of timely inspection of rice and mango plants should be established. He said exporters will be provided with all possible facilities within law to boost exports but compromise on qua lity and standards will not be acceptable. He said the government has a strong commitment to increasing exports. Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has played an important role in improving the growth of the IT sector in the past year through investment friendly policy initiatives. This year, Pakistan's IT exports to Saudi Arabia reached $310 million in the month of April, a significant milestone and the highest ever recorded in a single month. The IT sector is on its way to becoming Pakistan's largest export market and Pakistan's continued exports to Saudi Arabia have seen an annual increase of $100 million in IT exports over the past two years. Additionally, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), IT exports have increased by 62 percent year-on-year and export receipts have seen a 1 percent increase over the previous month. IT sector exports hit a record high of $2.59 billion from July to April of the current financial year, showing a year-on-year growth of 21 percent over the same period last year.
