State Legislature of Georgia has passed a landmark resolution to establish Sister State-Province Relations between US State of Georgia and Sindh Province of Pakistan.

The resolution introduced by State Representative Farooq Mughal and stated that a sister-state relationship between the State of Georgia and the Province of Sindh would promote mutual trade and commerce. The resolution will also help to increase the potential for educational, environmental, and cultural relations between the Province of Sindh and the State of Georgia.

The resolution said that the economy of Sindh is the second-largest in Pakistan and is home to a large portion of industrial sector and contains two of the country's busiest commercial seaports.

It said the Sindh province is endowed with coastal access and is a major center of economic activity in Pakistan with a highly diversified economy ranging from heavy industry and is the richest province in natural resources of gas, petrol, and coal.

The documents said legislature of the State of Georgia, on behalf of the people of Georgia, extends to the people of the Province of Sindh an invitation to join with Georgia in a sister-state relationship until December 31, 2026, to encourage and facilitate mutually beneficial economic, educational, environmental, and cultural exchanges.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan called State Representative Farooq Mughal to felicitate him on introducing the resolution and appreciated for his efforts in this regard.

Terming the Resolution ‘a historic step’, the Ambassador said that the landmark Resolution would be instrumental in forging strong and close relationships between the two sides and would help project soft power of Pakistan and the United States.

He said the Resolution provides a framework and a strong foundation for pursuing mutually beneficial partnerships, both in public and private domains, in critical areas of trade, investment, education, environment, culture and people to people exchanges.

The Ambassador also thanked co-sponsors of the bipartisan resolution including State Representatives and law-makers who contributed towards successful passage of the resolution.

Farooq Mughal in his remarks said that he is working closely with the business community, industry and academia to forge strong partnerships between the two sides.

Georgia is the 24th-largest in area and 8th most populous of the 50 United States. Inhabited by a population of around 11 million with a GDP of $580 billion, Georgia’s trailing five year GDP growth is ranked as 14th in the United States.

On the other hand, Sindh province is the second largest economy of Pakistan with a strong industrial base, coastal access and a highly diversified economy.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Romina Khurshid Alam says the concept of building a China-Pakistan community of shared destiny has once again increased the value of China-Pakistan friendship.

She was addressing the joint forum of FM 98 Dosti Channel, China Media Group and National Skills University Islamabad.

On this occasion, former Defence Minister Lieutenant General Retired Naeem Khalid Lodhi said China is a good friend, a good neighbour and a good partner of Pakistan.

He said building a China-Pakistan community for a society with a common future is an inevitable choice for China-Pakistan cooperation and development, which will bring more benefits to the people of both countries and give new impetus to regional peace and development.

Addressing the forum, Vice-Chancellor National Skills University Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar said under the concept of China-Pakistan community of shared destiny, the cooperation between the two countries in the field of education has achieved excellent results.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the government is making all out efforts to provide maximum relief to the people amid inflation.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, he said the government is making efforts to reduce the difficulties faced by the low and middle income groups particularly during the Holy month of Ramzan.

He instructed the concerned authorities to take measures to avert long queues of people at the flour distribution points.

About 185,000 needy families of Islamabad will start receiving free wheat flour from today as part of an initiative to provide relief to inflation-hit people during Holy Ramzan.

The eligible people will be able to get flour from 40 outlets of the Utility Stores.

The people have been asked to check their eligibility for the free flour by sending an SMS containing their CNIC number to 8717 helpline of the Benazir Income Support Program as the data has been linked with the BISP.

The registered families will be entitled to get 30 kilogram of flour in the month.

In case of any complaint, the people may also contact a toll-free helpline 0800-05590.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari participated in the meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir on the sidelines of the 49th OIC CFM in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The meeting was chaired by OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha.

The Foreign Minister briefed the Contact Group on the humanitarian and human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He explained that the situation in IIOJK has deteriorated with India's illegal and unilateral actions of 5th August 2019 and the subsequent attempts at demographic changes in the occupied territory.

The Contact Group expressed alarm at the situation in the IIOJK and adopted a Joint Communique reaffirming OIC's position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and reiterating its firm rejection of India's unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019.

It requested the OIC Secretary General and the Member States to raise their voices for the just cause of Kashmir at the international fora and hold India accountable for its oppression of the Kashmiri people.

The Contact Group also called upon India for immediate cessation of human rights violations in the IIOJK and taking steps for the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
