Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the government has decided to divert ample resources to youth to help them become self-sufficient and contribute towards the development of the country.

In his video message on ‘Youth Week’, the prime minister said an inclusive approach would be extended to the youth in order to mainstream them. He said agriculture and other sectors have also been included in this program.

Shehbaz Sharif said the government has declared 2023 as the year of the youth, where several projects aimed at their emancipation are being launched.

He said events would be held across the country to encourage the participation of youth comprising 68 percent of the population.

The prime minister recalled that his party launched various projects for the youth in last 10 years including the Punjab Education Endowment Fund, soft loans, and scholarships.

He said the youth programme had been extended keeping in view their significant human resource in national development.Shehbaz Sharif said the country was facing the immense economic problems when he assumed the power last year. The floods further added to the woes.

Shehbaz Sharif said sixty eight percent of our population consists of the youth which cannot be ignored.

He said laptops would be distributed among the distinguished students.

The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the government has prepared a National Clean Air Policy to tackle the increasing challenge of air pollution and recurring smog in major cities of the country.

Replying to a question during Question Hour in the National Assembly, Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman informed the House that the policy is aimed at formulating framework for improving air quality, citizens’ health, food security and reducing annual death due to air pollution, trans-boundary pollution as well as expanding economic activity.

The Minister further said that China has shown willingness to help Pakistan to deal with smog in line with the best practices being followed in Shanghai and Beijing.

She said the National Electric Vehicle policy has also been formulated for conversion of fossil fuel vehicles to electric in order to reduce emission.

Responding to a question, Minister for Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer Hussain says that all the federal universities have been directed to charge registration fee once for the whole course.

Responding to another question, the Minister said efforts are being made to end the gap in the announcement of results by intermediate boards so that admission in higher classes can be started at a uniform schedule.

Regarding facilitation of the students of flood-hit areas, Rana Tanveer Hussain said that fees of over 13,000 students were deferred and 20, 000 students were allowed to pay their fee in instalments. Besides, scholarships were provided to 40, 000 students of flood-affected areas.

“The Kalam Bibi International Women Institute Bannu Bill, 2023” was laid before the House.

Minister for Education and Professional Training Rana Tanvir Hussain presented the bill.

The Chair referred the bill to the standing committee concerned.

The House has now been prorogued.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar chaired the first meeting of monitoring Committee to oversee the implementation of austerity measures in Islamabad on Monday.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the decisions of the Cabinet on austerity measures.

The Secretary Finance gave a presentation on the decisions and their implementation status. It was informed that Ministries are already working on these measures and instructions have been issued for immediate compliance and reporting of any exemption and violation of these decisions.

The Committee directed all Principal Accounting Officers to implement 15 percent cut in their current budgets. It was decided that use of Tele-conferences must be encouraged for all meetings to save time and expenditure.

The Committee conveyed that decision to withdraw use of luxury vehicles by the Cabinet members and Government officials be implemented with no exemption in any case.

The Finance Minister highlighting the challenging economic situation in the country stressed all the concerned to ensure and expedite the implementation of austerity measures with sincerity and devotion in their ranks without any exception.
