Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani says the entire nation is united against terrorism and nefarious designs of anti-state elements to impede ongoing progress will never succeed.

Strongly condemning the attack on a police checkpost in Shehbaz Khel area of Lakki Marwat district, he said the sacrifices of security forces for sustainable peace in the country will not go in vain.

Expressing his heartfelt sorrow over the loss of precious life in the attack, the Chairman sympathized with the bereaved family of the martyred constable.

He said such cowardly acts by inimical elements cannot sabotage the hard-earned peace and our determination to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

Sadiq Sanjrani said Pakistan is determined to fight terrorism to ensure peace and tranquility in the region.

A meeting chaired by Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik in Islamabad reviewed COVID-19 situation and surveillance mechanisms at airports in the wake of the threat posed by the new BF.7 Omicron variant.

It was briefed that Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests of inbound passengers had been conducted at all airports of the country as per policy in vogue.

Officials of National Institute of Health told the meeting that vaccination and screening test of pedestrians are being executed at Torkham border on daily basis.

Civil Aviation Authority informed the meeting that efficient system with a proper management team is fully functional at airports and related logistic arrangements had been made to deal with any sub-variant of COVID-19.

The Chairman NDMA expressed confidence in country’s anti-Covid strategies and national preparedness regime. However, he instructed the NIH to issue precautionary advisories for educational institutes, social gatherings and communities and conduct weekly media briefing to sensitize the public and stakeholders.

He emphasized on continuous monitoring of global spread and behavior of the sub-variant and measures undertaken by other countries to counter the strain.

President Dr. Arif Alvi has said the sacrifices rendered by the security personnel to purge the country of the menace of terrorism will not go in vain.

He made the remarks during his telephonic conversation with the bereaved families of security personnel martyred in recent acts of terrorism in the country.

The President paid glowing tributes to the valiance of martyrs and condoled with the bereaved families.

President Arif Alvi was also appreciative of the spirit of the bereaved families who stated that they and their other sons and brothers are also ready to render lives for the sake of the country.
